For those who don't know about Open Table, church volunteers offer a 2 course meal with tea and coffee, starting at 1 pm in the church hall (bottom of the hill next to the British Legion). It is normally on the second Saturday of the month (* but see note below). This is open to anyone to meet and have a chat over lunch for an hour or so. We accept a monetary donation for the meal and dessert afterwards to pay for the food supplied and the cooking involved. It’s a way of making friends, or chatting to current friends, and we welcome those who wish to attend (but please book your place if you haven't already done so).
* The next Open Table lunch will be on Saturday 17th June.
20th May 2023
The lunch on 20th May was very busy with 40 people receiving a meal. Thank you to everybody who prepared, cooked and served the food. It was particularly busy because there were fewer volunteers to help to provide meals for everyone. Great job - well done. Looks delicious.
22nd April 2023
A BIG THANK YOU to those who helped at the Open Table lunch on Saturday. Many of the regular helpers were not there so those who did go worked extremely hard, especially as there were more diners than normal (approximately 43). Well done to everybody. The next one will be on 20th May.
Well done to the ladies who run the Open Table lunch club once a month in the Hall. A short while ago they were inspected by Sandwell Environmental Health Agency. They received ‘Excellent’ for compliance with food hygiene and safety procedures and ‘Excellent’ for compliance with structural requirements. We’re pleased to tell you that they received a 5 rating for Food Hygiene. Well done! Congratulations to all involved.

10th December 2022
The Christmas meal was served on Saturday 10th December and it was a lovely atmosphere. Well done to everybody involved in the cooking, serving and clearing up. A traditional Christmas meal and dessert was served and all the tables were festively decorated. Wonderful.
12th November 2022
On Saturday 12th November, Joyce read the Remembrance Day poem during Grace. The meal was mince served with baby roast potatoes and carrots - a simple meal to commemorate the simplicity, but nourishing, meals of bygone days. There was a vegetarian option too. Dessert was a choice of strawberry or chocolate gateaux, to remind everybody how fortunate some of us are today.
8th October 2022
On 8th October, the Open Table lunch club enjoyed a main course of coq au vin, mini roast potatoes and broccoli. (A vegetarian version was prepared also.) Dessert was apple pie and custard or bakewell loaf and custard. Well done to everyone involved in the cooking, serving and clearing away after.
10th September 2022
The Open Table lunch on Saturday 10th September was home made cheese and potato pie served with corned beef and carrots. Dessert was a choice of Alison's special bread pudding or bananas and custard. The bread pudding soon ran out; such is Alison's reputation! Thank you to all the helpers.
6th August 2022
The Open Table lunch on Saturday 6th August was ham, quiche, egg and salad, with home-made coleslaw and home-made potato salad. Also on the table were other side dishes to complement the plated salad as well as bread and butter. Dessert was meringue with cream, strawberry and grape or lemon drizzle cake with cream, strawberry and grape. Linda and Alison would like to thank those who helped on the day.
11th June 2022:
On 11th June, the lunch club enjoyed a United Kingdom themed Afternoon Tea. There was a strawberry flan with cream representing England, Scottish shortbread, Welsh cakes and Fifteen from Northern Ireland. (I am told by Linda that 'Fifteen' is a very sweet dessert that is very popular in Northern Ireland. It contains 15 digestive biscuits, 15 glacé cherries and 15 marshmallows blended together with condensed milk and is then refrigerated.) In addition, sandwiches were served on cake stands along with mini sausage rolls, quiche, etc. It all sounds delicious! Thank you to all the ladies (and Mario) for the hard work planning, preparing and serving the meal. Thank you, also, to Claire for taking these photos.
14th May 2022:
Alison and Linda served up another delicious lunch on Saturday 14th May. The menu was gammon, french beans and lightly toasted boiled potatoes served with a choice of parsley or cheese sauce. The vegetarian option was Linda McCartney chicken style roast. Desserts were home-made rhubarb crumble with cream or custard or raspberry swirl cheesecake with optional cream. Soft drinks were available with the meal and tea or coffee was served after. Sounds delicious! Thank you to the volunteers who helped serve, wash up and clear away.
9th April 2022:
The menu for the lunch on Saturday 9th April had an Easter theme of turkey with stuffing, roast potatoes and carrots. Dessert was a choice of chocolate sponge cake topped with chocolate ganache (home-made) and cream, or hot cross buns. Well done to everyone for their part in making the lunch such a success (from preparing, cooking and serving the meal as well as clearing up afterwards). Thank you to Mario for the entertainment too. A big thank you to Lynn Castillo for making the beautiful table decorations.
12th February 2022:
The Valentine's theme lunch on Saturday 12th February was successful. Thank you to the Linda R and Alison who worked hard to prepare and cook the lunch. Alison provided balloons and Mario was in charge of making the room look lovely. His fabulous folded napkin table decorations (with chocolates) completed the look and he showed a DofE participant and Linda S how to do this so they could make some. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped prepare the room, serve and clear up. A great team effort. Photos below.
The lunch on Saturday 6th November was a Guy Fawkes night theme serving jacket potatoes with a variety of fillings, followed by apple crumble or bread pudding and custard was available for those who wished to have it.
Our first Open Table meal for almost 2 years was on 9th October 2021. It was wonderful to see so many of our former diners again. We used our new refurbished kitchen and everyone liked the newly decorated and carpeted café area. All went well and Linda and Alison would like to thank all of the helpers they had on the day. (You can see a few photos from that day below.)
